Artist: Deepdown CD Review CD Title: Deepdown Self-Produced By Adam Bowman In a world of very little variety, it's nice to see more bands preaching the forbidden faith of originality. Enter Deepdown, a band which shows that they can honestly pull off everything from Zach De La Rocha lyrics in the tune "I Will Decide", to songs like "Dive", where the intro makes you remember Jane's Addiction performing "Mountain Song" so long ago. The actual band is fronted by a very talented young man. Vocalist Glenn Perham will make you think of Fred Durst (or, as some would like to call him, the devil) himself, but give him a bit and he begins to fly lyrically. When "Empty Spaces" hits, Glenn makes you realize that instantly. You can tell that the kid is giving all he's got, and in the music world, you have to, or else. But it's not like they're fighting a losing battle, as they have already tasted sweet success with the track "Drift", which garnered them quite the radio airplay. Also, their music has one very important ingredient. The fact that it so easily lends itself to a live environment. All of these things, their flexibility and their ability to deliver a good live show, combine to form an extremely promising future. Of course, three of these four songs I have mentioned ("I Will Decide", "Dive", and "Empty Spaces") are on the EP entitled "NXNW 1999". Granted, three songs alone will not give too much of an insight, but I guarantee you that with a run-through, you'll be ready and waiting for an album, just like me. |
