TRIPPIN'WITH
LIVID

By Caren Spitler

Okay, so, I am gonna tell it like it is, or at least as I see it! Keep in mind that what you are being offered here is one person’s opinion, which might be subjective. With that disclaimer loaded, activated, and fully in place I would like to introduce you to the next band that’s gonna rip this world up and turn it upside down. Livid is guaranteed to trip you out, and will more than just "rock your world". Their name is as impassioned and as strong as the music they play. This band plays music so heavy it will weigh down your soul, and yet so light it will make you high.

I have had the fortune to hear lots of talented bands of late, however few have made such an impact, or affected me in quite the way they have.

On first sight, they capture your imagination, and intrigue you. I happened to catch the end of a set the first time I encountered them, I was completely fascinated by what I saw. The stage was filled with candles, odd religious objects, and there was incense in the air. Livid’s powerful persona broke through the haze of a smoke-filled stage and multi-colored lights. A complete atmospheric mystique surrounded the band. Livid is not like one of those fluffy cakes that only look good from the outside, these are some serious musicians. Whatever outward visual impression they may make, their music has a thousand times more depth. It is a living entity all its own, with enough raw power to rival Mother Nature. All of this was just the first impression, since I entered the room in the middle of the next-to-last song.

I have seen them several times at different venues since that day (including the local stage at Warped Tour), and each time I am amazed. Although you could call Livid metal, musically they defy being neatly categorized, because they don’t sound like anyone else. In a world where it can sometimes be difficult to tell one heavy, "rap core" style band from the next. Livid stands alone every song sounding unique unto itself yet still having a quality that is uniquely Livid. At a glance you are taken with the almost larger-than-life stage presence of this band, and it only gets better when you stop, look, and listen. They are altogether extraordinary, talented, musicians and one f**king tight ass band! Sizzo, the singer pours out his heart with intensity in the deeply lyrical songs. Livid is held together by the powerful rhythm that is it’s very backbone: drummer Jim, and bassist Smokie. The two of them creating a foundation that is pounding, crunchy, and fierce. Then there’s the guitarist, Vayper who not only plays just about the best damn guitar I have ever heard, but can just about break you with the sheer beauty that he pulls out of his instrument.

This is a band I highly recommend you check out. If you like your music on the heavy side, you won’t be disappointed. If you are interested and would like to know more, you can find them at www.livid.net By the way, I am only one among the many who have been impressed .You can find various material on this band throughout the internet. I have made it a point to try to see them every chance I get, perhaps I will see you there next time.
