By bringing technology and emotion together with a certain level of mystique, 30 Seconds to Mars have managed to concoct an extremely impressive effort with their self-titled debut.

The emotionally-charged choruses to "Capricorn (A Brand New Name)" and "Buddha For Mary" are the album's heart and soul. How the band gets there, however, makes the journey interesting. From the brooding crescendo in "93 Million Miles" to the Nine Inch Nails-inspired percussion of "Echelon" and the hard-hitting, bass-thumping "Edge Of The Earth", each song holds its own little niche on the album, and the choruses are used to give them a recurring theme and feeling.

Although industrial music hasn't been truly accepted outside of Ministry and Nine Inch Nails, 30 Seconds to Mars show a prime example of how to balance the hypnotic nature of techno and combine it with the raw emotion and power of heavy metal. This band has huge potential, and if their first album is any indication, "it's just a matter of time."
