Jackpot CD Review
By Adam Bowman These guys are quite possibly the most unknown legends you may ever see. Jackpot's gathered quite the following down in Sacramento-ville, and fans have been waiting the proverbial 'long while' for their next effort. With "Shiny Things", Jackpot further showcase their wit and sense for funky rock beats. "Tattoos" gives off a vibe of careless fun, and the slightly off-kilter riffs of "Throw Away Your Misery" and "Hide The Frequency" give a new listener all the info needed as to find out how these guys nabbed a tour with Cake. Rusty Miller and Lee Bob Watson's near-fetish for cool-sounding guitar and vocal effects add a pinch of atmosphere to most of the songs, even though their most scenic track, "Bring On The Chimes", primarily features a piano (although their are a few wavy effects stuck back in the background). Jackpot's fourth album is a showcase of how the band is able to have fun and create something most people haven't heard before. It's just catchy enough to work, but just enough under the radar to make it a diamond in the rough.
