MurderDolls: The Modern Motley Crue Bring Mayhem
With a name like the Murderdolls, you can tell these guys are not here to play radio friendly music, or please the masses. With a sound that can be best described as a skillfully blended mix of ‘Reign in Blood ‘ era Slayer, and ‘Shout at the Devil’ era Motley Crue, the Murderdolls are all about being dirty, decadent and in your face rock n’ roll. Adding to their outright outrageous lyrics, and musical content, the band's mystique surrounds one of their members, finally playing in a band without his mask to cover his identity. Joey Jordison, the man made machine drummer from Slipknot plays guitar in this band, along with Static X’s Tripp Eisen. With song titles like ‘I like to Say F**K,’ ‘Dead In Hollywood,’ and ‘Hit and Rape,’ it is hard to take this band seriously. But, that doesn’t mean that they don’t hold their own on stage. This band will kick you in your ass so hard you won’t realize it until you’re in the middle of a full on metal pit. They don’t compromise their sound of true metal punk and glam, or as Jordison has referred to it, ‘blood and guts ‘rock ‘n roll.’ "WE had a choice tonight, we could have either played here, or all committed suicide. We made the wrong choice!" yelled lead screamer Ben Graves with an evil smirk on his face. But the crowd at the legendary Whisky cheered him on, seeing the humor in the bands music and lyrics that focus on horror movies, shock rock, and violence. But although this side project is not to be taken too seriously, one has to appreciate their creativity, and ability to bring back that old school downright dirty and decadent rock n’ roll. This band is today’s answer to Motley Crue, which may be a good thing or a bad thing, according to whom you talk to. Overall, they put on an entertaining live show.
