AUDIOSLAVE & JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE TAKE OVER HOLLYWOOD
WEDNESDAY, MAY 18TH
WITH FREE CONCERT AND TELEVISED PERFORMANCE
Hollywood Boulevard has become more surreal than ever these days. Since it was cleaned up by Scientologist then saved by the Hollywood and Highland complex (tourist consumer heaven) and now has been host to radio and TV personalities alike. Jimmy Kimmel made that very intersection his home and for the second time in as many years he hosted an event that closed down the famous street for a Rock ‘N’ Roll show.

Enter Audioslave; That monster band created of three parts Rage Against the Machine, and one part Soundgarden. This is a fact we keep reminding them of, mostly so WE don’t forget where they came from. The band is nearing the conclusion of its sophomore tour with three shows in Southern California. The first of the three in the very heart of Hollywood. Up to 10,000 bodies crowded into the street at Hollywood and highland in a nearly flawlessly executed exhibition of crowd control. Concert ran simultaneously on the ABC SuperSign in New York's Times Square.

The lucky crowd in Hollywood was treated to two tunes that aired on Kimmel’s show “Be Yourself” followed by “Your Time Has Come” both from CD Out Of Exile the follow-up release to Audioslave's enormously successful, eponymously-titled debut album. “Audioslave is a great band that deserves a great platform and on top of that, it's always fun to close a street down,” Kimmel said. The Jimmy Kimmel Live show seemed to go by fast enough. Once off air the band played nearly an entire set including “Set it Off,” “Like a Stone,” “Doesn't Remind Me” and “Show Me How to Live”. |
| Audioslave played “Your Time Has Come” a second time to get some video footage for the bands video and for MTV. Unfortunately the crowd became a bit agitated and things got cut a little short. Before that point faithful fans loved every moment. They also played “Spoonman,” “Killin in the Name,” and “Cochise” things started to become a little dicey when the band pulled out the Rage tune. A few riot cops could be seen in the periphery of the crowd just before Morello cam on to announce they could only do one more tune. |

The best part of this show was the excitement in the air radiating from the fans as well as the stage. No doubt, this band was every bit as excited to be there as the people were to have them there. "When I first moved to L.A. I walked the length of Hollywood Boulevard trying to get a retail job there and nobody would hire me," commented the band's guitarist Tom Morello. "Now they are shutting down the entire street so that Audioslave can rock a free show for our fans. We are very excited to rattle the windows of the whole damn city." This is why bands create music and this is why Rock ‘n’ Roll can never truly die. This was another great evening under the lights of a Hollywood night.
