Wolfmother have really begun receiving a buzz after the release of their debut single “Woman” in the States. Being hyped as a return to the old school of rock, Wolfmother's self-titled album offers just that. While some are quick to group them with Australian legends AC/DC, the vibe here is far more attuned to Ozzy-era Black Sabbath with a pinch of Led Zeppelin's strut. This is not the revolutionary album many are looking for, and it's better that way. This one is for the people who just want to jump around, bang the noggin, and party like it was 30 years ago.

The beauty of this album is the fact that the band knows exactly what they are. Lyrics like “Then a horse came running to me/said we're gonna go to the sanctuary./Then a storm began to blow/into another dimension.” (“Dimension”) and essentially the entirety of “Apple Tree” come across as very tongue-in-cheek, if not every bit as out there as their Sabbath mentors. Groove is aplenty, though, and that's why you're here. It won't change the world, but it'll rock yours.
