CD Title: Machine Love
Cleopatra Records

By Orren Merton

Since their inception, Genitortures have long been more of a S&M collective to a metal beat then an actual musical group. Machine Love is their 2nd album for Cleopatra records, and another attempt to be taken more seriously as a rock band. So, how does a band try and musically capture the frenzy of a S&M orgy? By enlisting the help of established and respected Industrial Rock luminiaries, that's how!

With production and mixes by Dave "Rave" Ogilvie (Skinny Puppy, NIN, Marilyn Manson), KMFDM, Razed in Black and others, Genitorturers have insured that the mix quality on this CD is wonderful--definitely on par with any other industrial metal album released in recent times.

Unfortunately, the creative production is not always enough to elevate the material above the mundane. Songs like "One Who Feeds" and "Procession" simply do not give Ogilvie enough to work with, and while the Ogilvie/Genitorturers arrangment of the Devinyl's hit "I Touch Myself" is produced immaculately, Gen's voice certainly can't rise to the level of the original, and the instrumentation ultimately cannot carry the song alone.

If a Genitorturer's fan is looking for another few original songs with some excellent production and remixes of past tracks (only 3 of the 8 songs are new), then Machine Love will definitely fill that need. For the uninitiated or casual listener, however, this CD might not be enough to set the Genetorturers above the pack.
