A Rant by Adam Bowman
Ever since their cover of "Faith", Limp
Bizkit has been living the musical life of a king. Remember your Shakespeare?
King Macbeth had a hideous flaw that caused his demise.
Perhaps his full name is Fred Macbeth Durst?
Since his band's meteoric rise, Fred has started directing videos such
as KoRn's "Falling Away From Me" and his own band's newest clip "Break
Stuff". He's now the head of Interscope Records, and can give anyone
on that label the heave-ho when it makes him feel giddy. And in his
spare time, he's gone from Staind's highest critic to their musical
savior. But despite all this, he's managed to allow one thing to get
away from him. His mouth.
Fred's been known to spew off whenever something doesn't fit his liking.
Take the case with Slipknot, for example. Durst badmouthed the band,
and even worse, their fans. According to Corey of Slipknot, Durst said
'Slipknot's fans are a bunch of fat, ugly kids."
Now, look at the tale of the tape: Slipknot is a 9-member band, while
Limp Bizkit has 5-members. Last time I checked, nine's bigger than five.
Even worse, Fred decided to play schoolboy with Marylin Manson and Trent
Reznor. While I agree with his comments on Manson (that being an entirely
different rant altogether), I have to side with Trent on his end. Trent's
career is FAR from over, and also, Mr. Reznor can lay claim to something
that not many people believe Fred, Wes & Co. will be able to say: The
fact that Nine Inch Nails has stayed popular no matter what. Ricky Martin
& Pop? NIN was there. Garth Brooks & Country? NIN was there. Nirvana
& Grunge? NIN was there, still dominating its territory.
But in Fred's defense, rock is in dire need of someone with balls the
size of grapefruits. Granted it's not as cool as it was back in the
gangsta rap days, but trashtalk will forever be a part of American culture.
It's in our blood to say 'we're better than you' in as creative a way
we can think of.
I mean, come on, Macbeth did it to Duncan and became king, and he didn't
get hurt afterwards, did he?
