The Razor's Edge
THE RAZOR SKYLINE AT ABSYNTHE IN LOS ANGELES / SUNDAY, FEB 27TH
By Orren Merton

The Razor Skyline is a Seattle band that starts with the same formula of industrial dance music with heavy guitars and feline vocals that Switchblade Symphony used, but then The Razor Skyline expands on that formula and takes it to a new place. Sounding far more Euro-beat than Switchblade, The Razor Skyline are carving out a niche in the goth/industrial scene all their own, and came to Los Angeles Sunday night to state their case among the goth faithful at Absynthe. Their performance was on a stage only slightly larger than the head of a thumbtack, and it was clear that they could not hear anything well through their monitors. Suprisingly, they still managed to pull out a passionate performance that sounded powerful, if loose. Singer Karen Kardell puts so much of her soul into each note that it's easy to forgive them if they aren't pitch perfect, and guitarist Cory "The Gunn" still weaved his heavy guitar licks expertly through the synth-driven songs. Considering how they managed to pull a moving performance out of a potential disaster, we can only wait breathlessly until they can return and play at a proper live venue.
