Sevendust
AT THE HOUSE OF BLUES IN HOLLYWOOD /
MONDAY FEBRUARY 21ST, 2000
By Caren Spitler

The House of Blues is always a fun venue to see a band. You always feel like you are out enjoying "real" night life. Standing among a carefully decorated combination between Disneyland's "Tiki Room," and Olvera Street. It was such a kick to see a band like Sevendust play.

If you missed them while they were here in the LA area this time around, it is highly recommended that you get your ass out to see Sevendust the next time they roll into town! These boys can put on a show! Damn! I can still feel the bright red-hot fever of sheer intensity coming off the stage. I looked and listened with wonderment and awe as this band "f**ked the s**t up" and blew me away yet again. They started off with "Home" the title song off the current album, a powerful song to kick it all off with. The 12-song set was packed with songs from both albums. During "Headtrip" Morgan gave us a sample of his power, pounding out a drum solo that was insane. In the middle of the set Lajon took a moment to dedicate the song "Crumbled" to Lynn Strait of Snot, adding that Sevendust would not be where they are today if it wasn't for Lynn. During "Crumbled," Vince took a moment to show his stuff playing one extremely bad bass solo.

They gave us quite the show. They play a sound that rivals any live band you can name, and work the stage with intent to kick ass! Vince aimlessly wanders the entire stage with playing out his powerful moving low-end bass lines. Clint and John manage to kill you with the power of their guitars and still jump all over the place, catching air up to almost 6ft. Lajon is something to watch on stage as he releases a charismatic style that is sinful. Don't even get me started on that voice… In my opinion his voice is the best thing that's happened to heavy music in a long time. It reminds me of the promise of what the band Living Color could have done with a bit more aggression in their souls. Lajon's vocals are laden with just a bit of southern styled soul that adds a depth and texture to the Sevendust sound, one unmatched by any other band.
