The Road & Sub-Atomic
AT COCONUT TEASZERS / MARCH 28, 2000

By D.A. Muse

A trip off the beaten path finds me placed in the path of "the Road." This Tuesday evening was buzzing with activity of all kinds. Choices, choices! Apex Theory at the Whisky, the Starts, and Liars Inc. at the Troubadour… a chain of events led me in a direction less traveled by me these days…

Rockers, the Road played the small and almost claustrophobic stage at Teaszer's. What this band brings forth is tried and true feel-good rock - a little blues-infused at points, and definitely danceable. The Road plays music to sway your hips to. They aren't selling an image so picture-perfect that the music is secondary. They played a good solid set filled with interesting songs. The songs were written and played well. If you like bands like Fu Manchu, or Kyruss, or the New American Shame, you will enjoy the Road.

I arrived in time to catch Sub-Atomic, they are the house band for Teaszer's on Tues. They played a strong set that showed how they can rock. This band features catchy and amusing tunes about things like Charlie's Angels, and mail-order brides. The singer had real stage presence, obviously comfortable with himself and with performing. The result is a pleasingly self-assured and playful performance.

… All said, it was an evening filled with pleasant and entertaining music, perhaps I will find myself there again on another Tuesday night.
