Artist: The Forty Fives CD Review CD Title: Get It Together NGA/Artemis Records By D A Muse Man, I think I need to frug! Feels good and has me looking around for Austin Powers, 'cause it's shag-a-delic, baby! Groove on, man…lava lamps and free love all the way. Is that an organ I hear? I think I may be ready for that hit of acid at any moment. Rock ala Beatles, meets the Monkees, meets the Doors, (well at least at the keyboard). Has a touch of clean, pure, old fashioned rock your ex-hippie mom could be proud of. The Forty Fives flex strong musicianship and songwriting skills, featuring fresh untainted guitar leads and nice vocals. But, with a sound this decidedly retro it makes you wonder if there is a place for the Forty Fives on the marketplace today. The problem is the nostalgic feel may land the band in the novelty category. I can see this cd being played at a party for a laugh and giggle dance fest. As I ponder this I am caught up in the fun of this band, and find the question fading from my mind as I start to dance. Still waiting for Austin Power's… maybe they can grab a spot on the soundtrack of Austin Power's three. For pure fun alone this band has my ear. |
