Artist: Gorillaz CD Review CD Title:
Gorillaz by Lina Reyes Eclectic = Gorillaz self-coined as virtual pop. I am not sure if it's a cartoon series or a band. The line up and story behind this band is as interesting and diverse as the songs they play. The four musicians the front man 2D, the bassist Murdoc, drummer Russell, and giutarist Noodle (not Noodles of Offspring) gather together each with a completely unique visions to come up with the fun mish-mosh that is Gorillaz. This band is equal parts Biz Markee, Pizzacato Five, and Jungle Brothers (on the softer tip), a touch Travis, and a good heaping helping of God knows what. The album is all over the place from rap, to techno, house, Jamaican style dub, punk. And even a touch of Cuban flavor. The self-titled Gorillaz album managed to land a nice list of featured guest artist, including musicians from Blur, the Tom Tom Club, and Ciba Mato. The CD is interesting enough to win a spot in my CD player. Although a couple of the songs are a bit too repetitive. The single that's been playing here on KROQ 'Clint Eastwood' Probably the worst song on the album. The remaining tracks are fun and danceable. Want to know more? I suggest you cruse on over to the bands web site to get a better understanding of what they are all about. The web site is as fun as the album www.gorillaz.com…. let the Gorillaz warfare begin. |
