Artist: Kilcharlie CD Review CD Title: My Drug Wonderdrugs Records By Adam Bowman Kilcharlie Let's do the math here. In the insert alone, we've got a pot leaf, a guitarist with a sticker that says "I Love Porn", a drummer flipping you off, and a topless devil woman. Add onto this songs with titles like 'Abuser', 'Trip', and 'Push The Needle'. With all this, put the album title onto the fire, as Kilcharlie brings us My Drug. Complete with pounding bass, hip-hop singing and hard-core growling voice, Phil Anselm-er, lead singer Chris and the rest of Panter-damnit, Kilcharlie incorporate everything from double bass drums to screeching shrieks to ultimately end up at one roadblock. The drums seemingly overrule everyone besides Chris. Don't get me wrong, Joey, the parts are bitchin', but there's a guy playing guitar and another playing bass that may want to be heard on occasion. The first real change in style comes on 'Rose Of Thorn', which transforms from a soft guitar intro into, eventually, the same thing you've pretty much been hearing, only here it's faster. While this is music to any hard-core thrasher's eyes, those wanting variety won't find much. 'Burn' has a decent groove, perhaps the only real tight rhythm on the entire disc. '2 Faced Life' comes close, but the constantly pounding bass drums take away from it in the end. Ultimately, the CD asserts itself for only the ones looking for a 30-minute mosh pit from hell. Pantera of the future, maybe? |
