"If you're beautiful on the inside, you're beautiful on the outside," proclaimed Tairree B., front woman of My Ruin, in the middle of their hour and a half long set at the Whisky Agogo on Saturday March 23rd. As the crowd roared in approval, My Ruin, which includes guitarist Mick Murphy, bassist Meghan Mattox, and drummer Yael, plunged on with their mesmerizing set to nearly a sold out crowd.

Indeed My Ruin is no stranger to the LA rock clubs circuit; they frequently play the Whisky, and other clubs in Hollywood, such as the Troubadour. But this show was a special occasion. It was to celebrate Drummer Yael's birthday and it served as a going away party of sorts. This was My ruin's last show in the LA area, for a while at least. The band recently were asked to join Kittie, along with Flaw, Skinlab, and in some cities American Head Charge on the 'Run Like Hell Tour, which is set to begin the first week of April on the East Coast. With their unique and beautiful sound, it is s shame that only now will this phenomenal band will get the chance to tour and let others outside the LA area hear their music.

The night at the Whisky was filled with eager, loyal fans of the band, who were there to show their devoted love and support for a great band, that deserves their newly found success. The fans in attendance were treated to some new songs from MY Ruin, some of which made their live debut.

Bringing together the gothic, ghetto, punk and metal fans and images, and music, My Ruin pounded through new live songs such as 'Get Pretty,' 'Weight Loss,' and 'American Psycho.' Other highlights of the night included classic songs like 'Blasphemous Girl,' 'Hemorrhage,' and 'Beautyfiend' among others.

What is so special about My Ruin, is that Tairree is not afraid of her critics, or to speak her mind, and let you know what she feels and thinks. If she is pissed, believe me you will know it, and it's not hard to feel the emotions when she is up on stage, yet in your face, screaming a demonic, yet harmonious howl, that sounds like it was sent from Hell but is on its way up to heaven. In particular, the new songs deal with Miss B's anger towards Hollywood and the media, mainly the music industry's obsession with her being a female singer in a hard rock band. Many in the media tend to focus in her beauty and weight, but by no means don't be fooled. She is practically flawless, one of the most desirable women in rock today, she is not bone thin, but proud of it. She hates the obsession with being thin, which is often aquatinted with being beautiful.

With this social commentary, My Ruin also adds intense elements of raw angst, pain, and emotion that are perfectly portrayed in their songs. Much of the lyric deal with the 'religion of relationships,' as Miss B. once refereed to it.

My Ruin currently do not have a record deal, and were screwed royally by their last label, Spitfire (whom the band refer to as 'Shitfire'), who killed both their records in the States, and made it nearly impossible for people to buy their albums. Until now, that is.The band recently made a deal with Hot Topics, the clothing retail and in Mid April most Hot topics nationwide will carry My Ruin merch as well as their 2 full length albums. It was all summed up very well by Miss b. at the end of their inspiring set. "It's not about Selling out to corporations or any of that shit. It's about getting your music out there to as many people as possible." Well said Miss B. this tour and deal with hot topic is only the beginning for My Ruin's much deserved success. It has been a long haul for the band, but it will not be long before they become the rock stars Gods that they already are and get the respect they deserve.

Playing before My Ruin were Fireball Ministry, who just may be this generation's answer to the next Black Sabbath. Three words best describe their sound: Gloomy, Doomy, and Sludgy. With their Sabbath core Riffs, and Ozzy like Shrieks, this stoner rocks almost gothic sound brought a doom metal vibe to the stage, yet managed to still do it with a sense of humor and optimism. They had longer than Hell songs, which consisted of the never ending guitar riffs, and drum solos, but they were worth it. This band is going places with their sound that today is a much-needed breath of old school. The music left chills down the crowd's bones. This is a killer live band and you will definitely hear more about them in the future.

Up before Fireball Ministry was San Diego Locals Daemos, who manage to mix coherently doom, death and classic metal into one homogenous sound. With their aggressive, fast songs, and their death metal style technicality and growls, this band reminded me of Deicide, mixed with Pantera, mixed with Neurosis, with a touch of Sepultura thrown in.

This is why it is not suprising that they busted out with a classic Chaos AD era Sepultura style jam session with tribal beats and Portuguese lyrics and all. Daemos also add an element of mystery, which many bands seem to lack. If you like death metal or doom metal check them out.

Finally, and ironically closing the show was Sinder. But since My Ruin are known to be humble and give up and coming bands a chance to shine, My Ruin always lets an opening band close the show. Sinder's emotional scars run so deep that you can practically see them. With the tormented voice of lead signer Mike Young, the Orange County based band manages to deliver a hard edged, dark and emotional
