- Local LA band makes Hollywood
Bowl shake its grove thing!
- The venue is usually host to
mostly classical and jazz events with the occasional R&B
and rock thrown in for good measure.
Ozomatli in the Inca calendar is
the God of Dance. The name itself personifies the power of this
band. And they will make you dance! When they hit the stage
you know it's a party! Explosive energy sets your sprit a fire
and forces your body to move along with the soulful tunes. Representing
a style that is all their own. Ozomatli's unique and eclectic
mix can go from Latin songs done to a Cumbia beat in one song,
to a dub/house style hi-hop that's infused with jungle rhythms
in the next song. That explanation only covers a small part
of the Ozomatli sound. This band uses a wide variety of instruments
to capture a wider range of musical styles. Always exciting
contemporary and laced with lyrical relevance.
Ozo (as the fans know them) weren't
the only band on the bill, but they were the shining stars of
the night, by far. The 30-minute set seemed like a tease. The
band played long enough to do a few new songs but a lot of the
set included songs from their first album. Songs like " Como
Ves", " Cumbia de los Muertos", and " Changó" were all form
the bands self titled album. The played a couple of tunes off
the new CD Embrace the Chaos, such as "1,2,3,4".
The band also played one totally new song they didn't give the
title but the lyrics featured the words "Ya viene el sol" which
translates to "here comes the sun". At one point during the
set the band requested for people to get out of their seats
and dance, which didn't take too much convincing. The band left
the stage bringing the entire crowd of approximately 15,000
people to their feet. The audience gave them the Ozomatli chant
as they made their way up into the house to party with the people.
That IS what this band is all about.
Keep your eyes open for upcoming
shows. Ozo will also be on tour with Santana. For more information
