AEROSMITH'S TOM HAMILTON AND JOEY KRAMER
WELCOME TROOPS AT
JUNE 21 VIRGINIA SHOW
Following the lead of bandmate JOEY KRAMER, AEROSMITH 's TOM HAMILTON provided 20 tickets to military personnel--matching the same number provided by KRAMER--at Sunday's show (June 21) at the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, VA, near Washington, D.C. Forty Marines and Sailors from the National Naval Medical Center--who are currently receiving treatment/therapy for their injuries sustained in Iraq or Afghanistan--were on hand for the show.
“Joey and I had the privilege of meeting a group of soldiers called Wounded Warriors Sunday night at the Nissan Pavilion show in Virginia,” TOM says. “Most of them were wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq. I found myself wanting to ask each of them how and where they were injured. But their wounds are not who they are and especially not Sunday night. That night was about joining the band and the fans and rocking out. We hope those guys had a great night and we appreciate their sacrifice.”

The first Beastie Boys headline date confirmed to follow the album's release, the band's debut stand at the famed Hollywood Bowl, has sold out. Further dates will be announced as they are confirmed.
Meanwhile, Beastie Boys recently began a summer festival mission with a set at the Bonnaroo festival in Manchester TN that blew the crowd of 70,000-plus out of their Birkenstocks and caused devil sticks to spontaneously combust. The performance featured an appearance by Nas who joined the Boys for the live debut of the new record's “Too Many Rappers,” as well as a rare appearance from Country Mike for an acoustic rendition of “Heart Attack Man.”
The mission will continue throughout the summer and will include upcoming appearances at the All Points West and Lollapalooza festivals, the latter of which will be preceded by a just-announced intimate Beastie Boys show at the Congress in Chicago on Thursday, August 6.
Finally, the last installment of the deluxe, remastered, expanded and altogether awesome Beastie Boys catalogue reissues will be dropping in advance of the new record: the band's multi-platinum 1998 opus Hello Nasty will be given the 2-CD/vinyl box set/multi-format treatment beginning with an August 17 pre-order/digital release and will hit stores August 25. Preceded by the universal smash “Intergalactic,” Hello Nasty crashed into the #1 spots of charts worldwide upon its July 1998 release, with first week sales of nearly 700,000 in the U.S. alone. Buoyed by the launch of the 360 in the round tour, Hello Nasty would yield B Boys classics “Body Movin',” “Three MCs and One DJ,” “Remote Control,” “Super Disco Breakin'” and more, win two Grammys, see the band presented with an MTV Video Vanguard lifetime achievement award, and ultimately sell some 7 million copies worldwide.
As previously announced, pre-orders for the expanded, remastered multi-format Ill Communication will begin July 6, with a physical release of July 14.

BECK.COM
EXTENSIVE OVERHAUL TO FEATURE DEBUT OF RECORD CLUB
Beck & Friends Form Music Club To Re-Record Entire Albums In One-Day Sessions and Post a Track a Week
Beck.com will be undergoing an extensive overhaul in the next month. It will feature several new sections, including Record Club, a regular meeting of various musicians to record an entire album in one day. Due to the time constraints involved in recording a record in a day, an album will be chosen to be covered and used as a framework for the proceedings. Nothing will be rehearsed or arranged ahead of time. A track from these sessions will be uploaded once a week on Beck.com, as well as through the web sites of those involved in the project.
Record Club will be an ongoing experiment visitors to the site will be able to follow from week to week.
The first album attempted–one of the few everyone could agree on–will be The Velvet Underground & Nico.
Musicians involved in upcoming Record Clubs include Devendra Banhart, MGMT, Jamie Lidell and Nigel Godrich.
HANK WILLIAMS III'S BAND “ASSJACK”
TO RELEASE SELF-TITLED ALBUM ON CURB RECORDS
AUGUST 4;
U.S. TOUR SET FOR JUNE 16-JULY 15 AND EUROPEAN DATES
FROM AUGUST 21-SEPTEMBER 12
ASSJACK --the death-metal metal band founded and fronted by HANK WILLIAMS III --will release their first album of fully authorized music August 4 via Curb Records. Featuring tracks like “Redneck Ride,” “Wasting Away” and “No Regrets,” the self-titled album personifies the split in the psyche of the singer/guitarist/songwriter/producer who last year released the psych-country album Damn Right, Rebel Proud . While they're two vastly different sonic experiences, both projects reflect the diverse musical interests of the self-professed “crazy fuck from Tennessee.” “Nowadays, there's a whole group of people that love Waylon and David Allan Coe and love Pantera and Slayer-- there's a whole breed of them out there,” says Hank III.
HIII will take both his “Damn” country band and ASSJACK out on the road beginning June 16 in Louisville, KY, with U.S. dates confirmed through July 15 in Knoxville, TN. For these shows, both the “Damn” band and ASSJACK will perform 45-minute sets, with a 15-minute changeover in-between.
For the ASSJACK album, Hank III performed, wrote and produced everything you hear. “Playing all the instruments and being involved with it that way helps keep me on my toes,” he says from his Nashville home. “One day it would be nice to have the band here in town where we can just jam, but most of my guys aren't around, so I have to work harder.” He has also played drums for Arson Anthem and bass in Superjoint Ritual (featuring former Pantera singer Phil Anselmo).
For the live shows, Hank III is excited that more people are sticking around for the metal part. His reasoning? “Well, A: they're either drunk and don't want to go home or; B: maybe the fan base is getting younger possibly. We might be getting a few more metalheads with what I've done out there with Superjoint Ritual and playing in Arson Anthem. That's probably a factor also and maybe they just wanna get their money's worth. Hell, they spent $20 bucks for a ticket, why not see the whole show? It doesn't matter if it's five people or 500, they're going to get the same show, same energy. Nothing will be different, every night when we do it, it's a rollercoaster. We say hello after the show…we try to take care of our fans, because they take care of us.”
Never one afraid to go against what people expect of him, Hank III says he's gotten strong--and sometimes violent--responses to his music. “It's pretty surprising how the power of music can piss some people off. Growing up the way I had to, and some of the redneck bars I had to play in, they just think it's complete disrespect to their establishment and to them--you know I can't make everyone happy and it is what it is. It doesn't matter if it's the redneck that gets upset and thinks I'm pissing Hank Williams off, or the young kid that thinks I'm selling out by playing hard rock, which is totally…if I was selling out, I would be doing what a producer tells me and dressing up all pretty and only be doing country music--that's how to make money. I just stuck with the hard road--that's what makes us different and unique and gives the wide audience range from 14 to 80 out there…cowboys, punks, metalheads, jocks, grandmas and the average everyday person. We bring them all together under the same roof. That's what makes us proud. That's what makes it worth it at the end of the day.”

New CD, new drummer, still Sour!

Roy Mayorga as capruted by our KJ Banuk
STONE SOUR--lead vocalist COREY TAYLOR and guitarist JAMES ROOT (who do double duty in multi-platinum, Grammy winners Slipknot), bassist SHAWN ECONOMAKI, guitarist JOSH RAND and new drummer ROY MAYORGA--will return August 1 with COME WHAT(EVER) MAY (Roadrunner),their first studio album in four years. Look for the band to hit the road this summer for the much-anticipated Family Values Tour with Korn and Deftones, beginning July 27.
Marking the follow-up to STONE SOUR’s self-titled debut--which was twice Grammy-nominated and RIAA certified Gold--COME WHAT(EVER) MAY was produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver). The resulting album finds the band firing on all cylinders and primed to capture the attention and the hearts of the rock ‘n roll masses. Come What(ever) May is a sensory experience, encompassing a wide spectrum of emotions. “30/30-150” (which fans can now experience online at www.roadrunnerrecords.com and www.stonesour.com) and “Reborn” (a video posted by the band using this track can be found on www.youtube.com) are bruisers that’ll get the blood coursing through listeners’ veins, while the first single, “Through Glass,” takes up real estate in your brain, thanks its unforgettable melodic twists and chorus. STONE SOUR know how to expertly craft melody and mix it with rock maelstrom in a way that is uniquely their own.
“As soon as the fans hear this new record, they’ll see it’s different from anything that we have ever done,” says TAYLOR. “It gives me a chance to do the singing that I love to do, the type of singing that I do when I’m walking around my house.” Elaborating on how STONE SOUR differs from his work in Slipknot he reveals “With Stone Sour, I loosen up and show more of myself.”
Guitarist Rand believes that the diversity of Come What(ever) May will be what hooks fans, and what keeps them. “This album’s content will fit any mood you may be in,” the guitarist says. “If you’ve had a bad day at work, you could crank ‘Hell And Consequences.’ If you need a little optimism, you could listen to ‘Through Glass.’ If you are feeling depressed, you could listen to ‘Zzyzx Road.’”
Guitarist ROOT, who contends that life itself influenced this album, sees Come What(ever) May as a necessary evolution in the band’s sound. “We’re taking every aspect to the next level. As an artist, no matter what you do, you must evolve. That’s very important to me. Some people fear change. I embrace it. This record is a testament to where I am at, musically and spiritually.” *
Hell YEAH! I for one am looking Forward to this one for two reasons. One, Roy is one hell of a drummer! Glad they hooked up with him. Two, as much as I appreciate Slipknot Corey has way too much of a voice not to show what he can pull off. This is a personal "must have on my list".
